Services were affected during the evening peak hours on the Harbour line of Central Railway, after a coach of a CST-bound train derailed yesterday at 6.55 pm.

It was arriving from Bandra and the second coach derailed and dragged for 50 metres, just before the train was to enter CST. There were no injuries, but thousands of commuters were affected due to the derailment.
The incident severely affected Harbour line services between Panvel and Andheri. Officials said that the most likely reason was the curvature of tracks over which the train plied, when it changed tracks just before entering CST. The coach that derailed was manufactured in 1996.
There is a 15-kmph speed restriction for trains while entering or leaving a station. "There could be several reasons behind a derailment. We can ascertain the precise reason only after detailed investigation," said DRM Amitabh Ojha.
The rains at night further delayed the process of restoring the services. The workers were seen taking shelter under the derailed coach. The coaches were separated and only the first and the derailed second coach were on the tracks.
More than 50 services were suspended between CST and Wadala Road. However services were running between Wadala Road and Andheri/ Panvel. Services were to be restored by late last night.
