On July 30, Mumbai Airport will become the first in the country to introduce a dream facility for fliers a transit hotel where they can catch some shut-eye and grub


If you're a frequent flier dreading another sleepless layover at Mumbai Airport, there's good news. Come July end, you can enjoy a cosy nap at the airport's new transit hotel at Terminal 2.

Mumbai: No baby steps, T2 takes wing in first year


The 32-room hotel will not only allow transit passengers to enjoy up to 12 hours of snooze time, but also offer a fully fledged kitchen service

The transit lounge is the first of its kind in the country, and will feature 32 rooms where fliers can catch up to 12 hours of shut-eye and even order food from the kitchen. The hotel is situated in the arrivals area of T2 and sources said GVK Reddy, managing director and founder-chairman of GVK, will inaugurate the paid service on July 30.

MIAL's spokesperson remained unavailable for comment. However, an airport official said, "At the facility, called Day Hotel, passengers will be allowed to use the rooms situated at level 1 of the terminal for a maximum of 12 hours.

Initially, some questions were raised concerning security issues at the terminal, but all these doubts have been resolved and the hotel is all set to commence its services."

Gourmet fare
"The hotel will have a kitchen facility as well, allowing passengers to enjoy freshly cooked food of their choice. Although the rates for use of this facility are yet to be ascertained, it will be levied along with the ticket fare at the time of booking flights," added an MIAL official.

The hotel will be of great convenience to the 40 million passengers estimated to pass through T2 annually. According to officials, two more such hotels are being planned for the terminal one in the departures area, and a third that is still on the drawing board.
