Policemen outside Kasturba Hospital hadn't received face masks even though their duty spanned over eight hours.

An officer who tied a handkerchief around his face to prevent contracting any infection said, "I decided to use a handkerchief because I don't want myself or my family to fall sick."

Another officer on duty, who is diagnosed with malaria, said, "We work in dirtier conditions. Being at a hospital is an advantage, as I can be treated immediately."

He added, "Some of us asked for masks and got them, but nobody is distributing them. The moment a box of masks arrives, patients scramble to get one."
