The Mazgaon magistrate court has summoned filmmaker Gaurang Doshi, in a Rs 20 lakh cheque dishonour case.

The case was filed by Shri Sunder Enterprises, which had financed a Doshi venture, tentatively titled Hap-py Birthday, starring John Abr- aham and Priyanka Chopra.

The company had paid Rs 35 lakh for the film, which was scheduled to be completed by April 2007. But the shoot never commenced. Doshi had issued a post-dated cheque (for September 12, 2008) of Rs 20 lakh.

However, when the cheque was presented at the United Bank of India, Byculla, it was dishonoured.
"We made several attempts to reach Doshi, but he remained unavailable," said Vibhav Krishna, advocate for Shri Sunder Enterprises.

Said Doshi, "There are no liabilities pending against Shri Sunder. I will prove my innocence." He's been summoned to court on February 20.
