BMC starts work on Vaman Bohisar Road, one of the worst affected streets listed by MiD DAY

Taking cognisance of MiD DAY's campaign on the sorry condition of roads, the R North ward (Dahisar) office has begun work on streets dotted with potholes. Among the 12 roads listed in the MiD DAY campaign, Vaman Bhoir Road was one of the worse-affected stretches, but now its condition seems to have improved. Sub-engineer of Road Department of R North ward, Machindra Navle, told MiD DAY, "I assure you that the potholes will be filled up by the end of this week".

When MiD DAY inspected the road yesterday morning, it found that Navle had in a way kept his promise. This reporter saw the work was on in full swing and potholes had already been filled up. Navle added that the order for commencement of work was issued to Sunrise Constructions on Wednesday evening.

Shivprakash Gore, an auto rickshaw driver staying in this area for the past 22 years, said, "There obviously exists a big difference between a good road and a road filled with potholes. When I drive my auto rickshaw on this road, the passengers, many of them pregnant women and heart patients, always request me to slow down."

Indrajit Murli Yadav, a grocery shop owner who has been staying in the area over the last decade, echoed Gore's sentiments. "Every year there is a problem on this road. The municipal authorities every time carry out repairing work by way of filling the potholes with gravel. But as soon as the monsoon gets over, the situation is back to square one. Only temporary or kaam chalou methods are employed and not the permanent ones."

Sunrise Constructions has identified around 25 roads in the eastern and western side of Dahisar where filling up of the potholes has to be done. The site engineer of the firm, Mukesh Patil, said, "The deadline for completing the work is May 15 and we have to finish the work by then at any cost."
