MMRDA orders contractor to fix the dilapidated stretch leading to King's Circle flyover; shoddy repair work had made the road dangerous for bikers

Waking up from its deep slumber, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has taken a serious note of the deteriorated condition of the small road leading to the King's Circle flyover and has initiated repair work on the stretch.

Last week, MiD DAY in its report ('Brand new road leading to flyover in shambles', Nov 16) had highlighted the state of this particular stretch, which was pockmarked, uneven, and the cause of peril to motorists.
Bikers, in particular, were risking their lives while riding the pothole-ridden stretch.

And some of these potholes were filled by using paver blocks, making the road uneven and increasing their chances of skidding.

Officialspeak
According to MMRDA Joint Project Director Dilip Kawathkar, "Since the flyover and the road that connects the south-bound carriageway of King's Circle flyover were a part of the project, it was the contractor's duty to carry out the repair work. We have asked him to do the needful at the earliest, so that commuters don't get inconvenienced."

Site inspection
When MiD DAY visited the stretch on Saturday, it discovered that the haphazardly placed paver blocks were removed and the upper layer of the road was dug up, so that it could be reconstructed. "Soon, the contractor will carry out resurfacing of the road leading to the flyover and will also initiate installation of cat eyes or reflectors," said an MMRDA official on the condition of anonymity.
