Friday night proved unlucky for Datta Jaisingh Jhadav who was killed when he saw a Dharavi resident being murdered
Mumbai's largest slum turned into the location for a bizarre double murder on Friday night. The incident occurred at 12.30 am when Mohan Vitthal Shinde, a 25 year-old readymade garment shop owner was returning home.

While walking through a lane near Peela Bangla bus stop in Dharavi, Shinde saw a group of men fighting. In a bid to walk past, he brushed against one of them, inviting the fury of an already raging bunch. A verbal spat ended up in a brawl during which the men whipped out a sword and knife and attacked Shinde.

While Shinde slumped to the ground, Datta Jaisingh Jhadav, a 30 year-old passer by witnessed the attack. On realising that he was an eyewitness to the murder, the men attacked Jhadav with the same weapons, killing him on the spot.

The bodies were taken to Sion Hospital where a postmortem was conducted. The reports are awaited. The police have launched a search for the accused and several people have been detained and questioned over the last two days. SA Patil, senior police inspector with Dharavi police station said, "We have questioned a whole lot of people. There seem to have been between three to four men involved. The two victims aren't related to one another. We are hopeful of getting to the accused soon."
