A desperate youth from Dombivali made an unsuccessful attempt to end his life by self immolation at Thane district collectorate during the 'Lokshahi Din' (democracy day).
The youth Ganesh Narayan Gaikwad, had made several representations to the collector during the 'Lokshahi din' yesterday regarding the encroachment on his plot.
The collector referred the matter to the Police Commissioner for action and removal of the encroachers.
However, as the matter was subjudice the officials did not pay much attention to the same. An annoyed Gaikwad once again approached the Collector Shankar Bhise and raised the issue.

As he did not get satisfactory reply he pulled out the can containing petrol and poured it on himself and was to self immolate himself.
But the people around the premises stopped him and handed him over to the police who have registered an offence of attempt suicide against the youth.
The incident itself created a piquant situation for quite some time in the collectorate during the high pitched drama.
