DAWOOD Ibrahim has found his successor. After the death of brother Noora earlier this month, the don is now grooming Mustaqeen (38), the second from the bottom of the six siblings, as the successor of the D-Company, Crime Branch investigations indicate.
"Dawood wants the mantle of the empire to go to a family member. Mustaqeen is likely to head the D-Company, superseding elder brothers Anees, Iqbal and key lieutenant Chhota Shakeel," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria, who learnt of this from a source in Pakistan.

According to the police, Mustaqeen has no cases registered against him in Mumbai or Dubai and this is precisely the reason Dawood picked him as a successor.
"In fact, Dawood has kept him away from all nefarious activities so that he could take charge of the business later," informed a police officer requesting anonymity.
However, Mustaqeen is clued in about the D Company's activities. He was entrusted the gutka business after Noora became ill and is also at the helm of Dawood's counterfeit currency and bullion business, inform sources.

He also has an excellent rapport with the Pakistani Inter Services Intelligence officials, they say.
Among Dawood's other siblings, Iqbal, who was accused in the illegal construction of Sara-Sahara shopping complex and the murder of a CBI informer and was later acquitted in both the cases, is now staying in Mumbai; Anees, who allegedly supplied an AK-56 to actor Sanjay Dutt, is said to be shuttling between Pakistan and Dubai and the youngest of the siblings Humayun is suffering from cancer and has not made a foray into the family business.
D's Rs 10,000-cr business empireDawood has been running the underworld businesses since he escaped to Dubai in 1983. His siblings have been assisting him in running the empire estimated at Rs 10,000 cr.
Most of the D-company's activities like extortion and executing killings are carried out by his top aides Chhota Shakeel and Fayeem Machmach.
