Temperatures to hover around 15°C tonight, says weather dept
This New Year eve keep short dresses and cool fabrics at a bay and do not forget to carry winter essentials to ward off the chills. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), it's turning out to be a cold winter in Mumbai, by its standards, thanks to the cold wave that has gripped North India. The weather department has forecast that the temperatures are going to hover around 15° Celsius tonight. On the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, the minimum temperature at Santacruz was 15.2° Celsius.
Temp talk
Wednesday recorded a daytime temperature of 35.3°, while it was 14.2° at night. The IMD has predicted for the next 48 hours minimum temperatures will be in the same range. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 36°.
The city witnessed its coldest December day in decade last week at 11.4°. However, daytime temperatures have been unusually high this year. Tuesday was the hottest December day in seven years at 36.3°. Maximum temperatures in December are usually recorded around 32°or 33°.
IMD speaks
V K Rajeev, director, IMD, said, "This is because most of the winds we have are easterlies. It is not entirely unusual. It will take some time for the northerlies (wind blowing from the north) to set in, only after which daytime temperatures will come down."
