Fire broke out in a slum in the heart of Mumbai's western suburb of Juhu on Monday evening. The blaze is believed to have started due to a cylinder blast at around 8.30 pm in Nehru Nagar slum area near the Juhu aerodrome.
Four fire engines and four water tankers were sent to the spot to control the blaze, which has been brought under control. The fire did severely damage six homes, but no one was injured, a fire brigade official said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be officlally ascertained. However, residents claim that the fire started due to a cylinder exploding at one of the homes while cooking dinner.
