The Bombay High Court on Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail application of Maharashtra minister Siddharam Mhetre in Solapur murder case.
Mhetre, a Congress leader and Minister of State for Rural Development, is facing charges of instigating the murder of a BJP worker at Shevgaon in Solapur district last month.
While rejecting his anticipatory application, Justice AP Deshpande observed that the accusations were of a serious nature and thorough investigation was necessary in the larger public interest.
A sessions court in the district had earlier rejected Mhetre's bail plea following which he approached the High Court. A BJP worker, Bhimanna Kore, died in a clash between two groups at Shevgaon village near Akkalkot in Solapur (south Maharashtra) on September 26.
