Heavy rains has been lashing Mumbai and surrounding areas since last night and has led to suburban train services, on both Central and Western lines, being delayed since morning
Showers made a comeback in Mumbai and its surrounding areas from Monday night as most parts of the city experienced incessant rainfall from 2 am onwards. This is in accordance with IMD's prediction that monsoon will return to the city post-July 20. The heavy downpour has disrupted suburban train services, on both Central and Western lines, during the peak morning hours.

There was waterlogging across many areas like the subways across the city, Andheri, Santacruz and Parel.
The train services have been also affected, with Western Railway trains between Dahanu Road and Virar being in bad shape due to waterlogging on tracks at Palghar.
Road traffic has also been diverted in several areas due to waterlogging.
The island city saw 30.08 mm of rainfall, Eastern suburbs 42.72 mm and Western suburbs 58.66 mm rainfall from 2 am to 8 am. Rainfall then picked up and until 9 am, heavy rainfall was experienced in: Dharavi (33 mm), Kurla (39 mm) Chembur(34 mm), Bandra (57 mm), BKC (52mm). Other areas which experienced moderate rainfall: F/North ward (25mm), Grant road (20 mm), Malvani (23mm), Vile Parle (22mm) Andheri (20 mm), Dindoshi (16 mm).
The long distance trains towards Gujarat have been affected since 5am, which are stranded or running slow between Virar and Borivali. There is also some waterlogging on Central line near Sion and Kalyan stations.

"Due to the waterlogging at Palghar even the local train services are running late," said a WR official. The Main and Harbour lines on Central Railway too are running late by 20 minutes or so. Railway authorities fear problems in the hours will worsen if the downpour continues.
Commuters had a tough time on Tuesday as trains on the Western line were running late. Some commuters at Borivli station complained that trains had not moved in 25-30 minutes, leading to chaos.
But according to passengers, trains on both lines are running at least 20-40 minutes. The Metro services on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopr (VAG) line were running on time.

The traffic on the arterial Western Expressway was running smoothly, vehicles were moving slowly as a precaution in the rains. Slight waterlogging was witnessed at Ghatkopar (East) near the junction at Eastern Express higway.
Due to chocked-up storm water drains waterlogging was also witnessed on JP Road below the Indian Oil junction Metro station.
The city experienced waterlogging at Milan subway, Maheshwari garden, Shell Colony (Chembur), Khardeo Nagar (Chembur), Samaj Mandir Hall (Manjrekar marg). The BMC has pressed into operation 72 pumps for removing water from the streets.
According to the IMD, frequent spells of showers would occur and there will be heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours. The maximum temperatures will be around 30 degrees and minimum 26 degrees. "Heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur in isolated parts of Thane, Raigad and Greater Mumbai in the next 36 hours" the forecast says.
The next high tide is at 3.40 pm (3.98 mts).
