Mob lynches cop on pilgrimage

A holy trip turned into horror when Girgaum division ACP Tanaji Ghadge the first officer to interrogate 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Amir Qasab set out on a trip with his family to the holy place of Tuljapur yesterday.

Ghadge, his wife and two sons had almost reached Jhamkel Road on the Ahmednagar Highway around 5.30 pm when a young couple on a bike tried to overtake Ghadge's Qualis.

The bikers, identified as Yogesh Dani and Kalpana Gaikwad, allegedly switched lanes constantly.

When Ghadge asked them to slow down, they called him derogatory names.u00a0 They then raced away from the spot, gathered a few locals and urged them to stop Ghadge's car and lynch his family.

Ghadge said that the mob beat his sons and stoned his car. With no other option, he pulled out his pistol and fired two rounds in the air. Said Ghadge, "The mob was not ready to believe I was a policeman.
