Pravin Chheda, chairman, BEST, said, "The channel is advertising through our buses. We are earning revenue and our passengers are enjoying the benefits as well. Moreover, it's a matter of pride for us. The channel zeroed in on our buses as they consider them as the best mode of transport in the city that reaches out to maximum people."u00a0u00a0u00a0
The buses were hired for two days yesterday and today.
Regular commuters, though amused when they heard of the free ride, had little to complain about. Jyoti Waghmare, who hopped on to a BEST bus on route no 254 from Andheri station said, "When I asked for a ticket for Veera Desai Road, the conductor returned the fare and said the trip was sponsored by a company. He was not carrying a ticket box and looked relaxed," said Waghmare
The channel has hired buses that will ply on routes that cover Kandivli, Andheri, Kurla, Bandra, R C Church, Electric House, to mention a few.
"The idea was to cover the entire city and so we decided on routes, which connect most areas of Mumbai," informed an employee of the channel, requesting anonymity.
