Corporator Ramesh Latke plans to bring up the alleged encroachment of a 50,000 sq ft BMC plot in the K-ward reserved for use as recreational playground by five-star hotel Grand Maratha Sheraton in the civic body's improvement committee meeting next week.
"In 2002, the hotel situated near the international airport was allowed to develop the plot, under the condition that 67 per cent of the land, which is adjacent to the hotel, would be available for the use of common citizens, while the rest would be used by the hotel.

However, once the development was done, the hotel raised curtains over the entire plot and shut the common man out. The hotel has been using the plot for private parties, and as a shooting locale for the last seven years. The entrance to the ground has been diverted to the hotel in such a way that citizens can't use it," said Latke.
Latke says the hotel has been served several notices by the BMC.
"All the notices have been in vain. We have written to the BMC to follow stipulated land acquisition procedures and obtain the land back. The matter comes up for discussion in the next improvement committee meeting," said Latke.
Hotel officials could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
