Income Tax department raids six onion traders in APMC market

Under the Central Government's decree, the Income Tax department has been raiding several onion traders across the country, and six onion traders were raided at Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) market yesterday.


Under the Central Government's decree, the Income Tax department has been raiding several onion traders across the country, and six onion traders were raided at Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) market yesterday.

Ashok Walunj, APMC Director confirmed, "The Income Tax department has raided some traders in the onion-potato market yesterday."

A trader said, "They came and started searching the premises and asking questions. The traders whose shops they raided were temporarily closed and no one was allowed to go in."

Laxman Pingale, one of the traders raided, did not respond when contacted. Megharam Parihar, a Jodhpur-based trader, said, "We want to know what is happening and why is the government doing this?

It is just making it more difficult for us to do business."

Nitin Parakh, another APMC-based trader says, "Why would they raid us? We just supply onions to Mumbai."

B P Gaur Director General (Mumbai) of the Income Tax department was unavailable for comment, despite repeated attempts to contact him.
