"What's the point of living in a democracy, if one is mistreated in this manner. We don't know why we were subjected to such treatment," Jaya Bachchan told MiD DAY.
Amar Singh said, "The police treated us like criminals by manhandling Manoj and me. How can Manoj contest elections, if he is not allowed to enter the city?" Manoj is the party candidate from the Gorakhpur constituency.
R K Shrivastav, senior superintendent of police, Gorakhpur City, said "A Muslim religious function was underway in the city. The SP leaders would have attracted even more crowds. This prompted us to use Section 144 of the IPC, and bar their entry."
