As the row over his induction into the BJP intensified, former Bahujan Samaj Party leader Babu Singh Kushwaha wrote to BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Saturday, asking his membership request to be kept on hold till he is cleared of corruption charges.
"Till the time, the allegations against me are proved, I will keep the BJP membership on hold," he wrote.
A day after Kushwaha was inducted in the BJP, the Central Bureau of Investigation raided his properties in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi. The raids caused major embarrassment to the BJP and several BJP leaders, including Maneka Gandhi, have openly protested his inclusion. Kushwaha is a prominent OBC leader and was once a trusted lieutenant of BSP supremo Mayawati. He was sacked from the post of Family Welfare Minister in April 2011 following his alleged involvement in a multi-crore-rupee rural health scam.
