Amarjeet Singh Manhas, chairperson, Mumbai MHADA board, declared yesterday that the much-awaited lottery for 3,863 MHADA homes would take place as per schedule in May, quelling rumours of a delay due to the forthcoming elections.
"We started selling the application forms from January, so the Election Commission's code of conduct does not apply to us in this case," said Manhas, who has also written to the senior board officials to allow those who have smaller houses to apply for bigger ones built by MHADA.
"We want an amendment in the clause that does not allow those who already have a house to apply for MHADA accommodation," said Manhas. "Most families in the city have expanded.
The current accommodations are not big enough. It would help if a person who has a house granted under the economically weaker section quota can apply for a bigger house in the middle income group after fulfilling all stipulations," Manhas added.u00a0u00a0
MHADA had made the forms available for its 3,863 homes at the 22 branches of HDFC Bank from January 12 to February 6, whereas the submission dates were from January 13 to February 11.
