The general elections scheduled in April-May may work in favour of Mumbai. The newly-appointed chairperson of the MSRDC and PWD Minister Vimal Mundada urged engineers working on the Rs 1,604-crore Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) to complete half the project by the end of February or early March in a meeting on January 7.

The general elections scheduled in April-May may work in favour of Mumbai. The newly-appointed chairperson of the MSRDC and PWD Minister Vimal Mundada urged engineers working on the Rs 1,604-crore Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) to complete half the project by the end of February or early March in a meeting on January 7.u00a0

However, Mundada disagreed that the request for the fast completion of the project was because of the elections. She said the BWSL was a landmark project and, hence, should be accessible to the public soon. "The advancement of the date of completion has nothing to do with the polls. Contractors and engineers have given a commitment to complete it by early March without compromising on quality," she added.

Engineers working on the BWSL said they would not be able to meet the February deadline. Keeping in the mind the present condition, the four lanes of the sea link won't be ready before April.

An MSRDC official said, "It will be difficult to complete work on the south-bound lane of BWSL before March."
Another official said, "We'll try our best to complete the project before time, now that problems of fishermen at Worli have been solved." Fishermen had expressed displeasure earlier saying the connecting pillars at the Worli end were affecting their business.
