With growing demand for agriculture management courses, Maharashtra government is planning to introduce 'Agriculture, Technology and Management' course at school level.

"We are planning to introduce ATM from standard eight in all schools from next academic year in order to meet the changing needs," School Education Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil told PTI. ATM would give students a basic idea of the topics at school level, as more students opt for professional courses after standard 12th, Vikhe-Patil said.

Currently, Management is favorite subject of the students and it is required in all the fields. It would be helpful for the students if they do primary study of the topic at school level, the minister said.

Continuously developing branches like engineering and sciences are related to technology. Students will benefit from it by understanding the topics in schools, he said. An area like agriculture cannot be ignored and should be taught from school level, he said.

Considering the objections raised by some sections to introduction of ATM, the minister said it would be made optional for standard 10th, so the students will not have to bear pressure of more subjects.
