A 48-year-old man was arrested by the Thane police with a country-made revolver on Sunday. The Wagle Estate unit of Thane crime branch, on further interrogation, found that he had committed an offence in Azamgarh, where he fired a round from the revolver and injured a person over some dispute. To avoid arrest, he came to Mumbai.

According to the police, the arrested accused has been identified as Sauraf Irshad Khan (48), a resident of Santosh Nagar in Mumbra. He originally hails from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. Senior Police Inspector, Anil Pophale of Wagle Estate unit 9 of Thane Crime Branch, received an information about a man i.e. Khan coming at Thane, with a illegal country-made revolver. "We received information regarding that. He is a sharp-shooter and was wanted in Uttar Pradesh. We, accordingly, laid a trap on Sunday near Anand Cinema in Thane west, Kopri. At around 1:30 pm, we caught hold of him, and found a revolver from his custody that contained two live bullets. The total cost was Rs 50,400," added Pophale.

A case was been registered at Kopri police station against Khan under different sections of the Arms Act. "When we interrogated the accused, he further revealed that some two months ago he fired a round on Anis Sagir Khan (35) that hit his back. He was admitted and was later discharged. A case had been registered against the accused at Jaunpur police station for attempt to murder, and the police were in search of him," said Shivaji Bendre, Police Sub-Inspector, Wagle Estate crime branch.

"Khan further revealed during interrogation that Sagir was the neighbour, and they had disputes in the past over farm land and property matter. He was frustrated by the regular fights so he planned to kill Sagir, who luckily survived. The accused was produced in Thane court and was ordered magisterial custody," informed Madan Ballal, Police Inspector, Wagle Estate unit, Thane crime branch.
