A 58-year-old had a miraculous escape on Thursday after he slipped and fell 400 feet from Echo Point in Matheran, while trying to click a selfie.
The Times of India reported that Ajit Barve is a financial broker from Vile Parle. Matheran police assistant inspector Prashant Kale said, "Barve was staying at a hotel in Matheran for two days and checked out on Wednesday. Around 10am on Thursday, he crossed over the safety railing at Echo Point. His leg slipped while trying to take a selfie and he fell 400ft into the valley. However, he sustained minor injuries."
The report quoted Matheran police head constable SM Patil saying that after he received an alert around 11am, they informed the Sahyadri Mitra Mandal team which carries out rescue operations. The rescuers used a rope and stretcher to haul him up. A team member said, "Barve hit a tree while falling and landed on a rock surface."
Barve had left for Matheran on Monday afternoon. He crossed over the Echo Point safety railing to click a selfie, but slipped. His medical tests are clear now, a relative said, on condition of anonymity.
