As the city gears up to welcome Lord Ganesh on August 23, mandals across the city have been receiving unusual donations.

With the cases of swine flu increasing, concerned citizens are donating masks for volunteers.

Just like us: The Pragati Seva Mandal's Ganesha fights his way through traffic yesterday to get to his King's Circle pandal.

"So far, we have collected about 3,000 masks. We'll distribute them among devotees and volunteers," said Santosh Narkar, secretary, Girgaum-cha Raja mandal.

A volunteer at the GSB Seva mandal in Matunga said, "We have increased the size of our pandal by 30 m to ensure people don't suffocate.

We have also increased the number of exits and decided to restrict the number of devotees at any given point of time."

Girgaum's Keshavji Naik Chawl will have an open pandal to ensure people don't contract swine flu and the Parel's Ganesh Galli mandal will set up blood check-up camps along with the BMC.
