BJP keen on the Bhojpuri actor joining the party as he will be an asset in the forthcoming BMC elections and will appeal to the north Indian vote bank

Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari is riding high, post his Bigg Boss stint. Though no official invitation has been exchanged, sources say that the wants to join the BJP.

With the BMC elections a few months away, the saffron party is trying hard to keep their North-Indian vote bank happy.

Since Tiwari is popular with the masses, he would be a great asset, say sources.

The earlier stint

Tiwari had earlier contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2009 on the Samajwadi Party's ticket from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur constituency.

He attained the ticket owing to his attachment to the former general secretary Amar Singh. However, with Singh's suspension, Tiwari also saw him being sidelined in the party.

Although Singh went ahead and formed Lok Manch, a new party, Tiwari did not join him and said, "I share a personal relation with him, but I am not a member of his party."

Asked whether he would join the BJP, Tiwari said, "I haven't received an invitation, but if I am invited, I'll give it a thought. Right now I want to focus on movies and shows that I have signed up for."

Shotgun fan

Tiwari revealed that he is a huge fan of Shatrughan Sinha, the BJP MP from Patna.

Recently, during an event, Tiwari was spotted on hoardingsu00a0 rubbing shoulders with other BJP leaders, including Shatrughan Sinha, State President Sudhir Mungantiwar and BJP leader Ashish Shelar.

Sources said that if Tiwari agreed to join the party, he would be inducted into the fore at an event being conducted for North Indians at KJ Somaiya grounds on February 13, at the hands of the BJP president, Nitin Gadkari.

Suresh Gupta, senior BJP leader from the Uttar Bharatiya Morcha said, "We would invite Tiwari and he can join us if he likes our ideology of nationalism. If he accepts, there would be no hurdle in his entering the party."
