Less than a week after they seized around 25 kilograms of contraband meow meow or mephedrone, worth Rs 5 crore from the city, the investigation trail has led Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials to Mahad in Raigad district.
NCB officials have collected samples from the chemical factory
Officials suspect that the contraband is being manufactured from a chemical factory located in Mahad Industrial Estate, and is supplied to the city and international buyers.
Acting on a tip-off, NCB officials arrested Ankit and Rakesh Kapoor, residents of Bhakti Park, Wadala, Parag Mehta of Happy Homes, Dahisar, Jogabhai of Dhanera, Gujarat and Nanji Ram Devasi of Jalore, Rajasthan, from Andheri (East) on February 27.
Officials suspect that the accused were planning to export the drug to several international locations where it is banned already. "We have collected samples from Rohan Chemicals Pvt Ltd, Mahad, which has its administrative office in Malad.
Further investigation is on," said an NCB official. Speaking to mid-day, factory owner Prakash Gavas' daughter Kavita Bhosale said that her father has been hospitalised. She confirmed that NCB officials visited the plant in Mahad and collected a few samples. "It is too early to comment at this moments, as they have only taken samples," she said.
