The Thane Police raided two call centres in Malad and Borivali with alleged connections to the bogus ones in Mira Road. According to a report by the Indian Express, a Borivali resident named Jagdish Kanani, who seems to have vested interests in the fake call centres in Mira Road was interrogated by the Thane Police, following which they decided to take the decision.

Investigations reveal that Kanani, who was a resident of Borivali was somewhat of an 'old-timer' of the fake call centre trade in collecting money from foreign nationals. Officials believe he has been involved in such scams since 2012 at least.

Born and raised in Chennai, Kanani did his MBA in Pune and then moved to Mumbai. During interrogations he denied knowing or having any connections with the Mira Road mastermind Shaggy alias Sagar Thakkar.

He is involved in various other legal ventures like co-owning a film studio, airlines hospitality among others. A source from the Thane Police department said that on hearing of the raids Kanani shut down both the call centres and the cops could found nothing incriminating as a result.
