On Monday evening, theu00a0state Anti-Terrorism squad recovered 25 kg more heroin in the case of IPS officer Saji Mohan whom they arrested in Mumbai on Saturday. The ATS had seized 12 kg of heroin from Saji on his arrest.

The ATS recoveredu00a0the 25 kg of heroin from a flat belonging tou00a0the son of one Vicky Oberoi. Vickey Oberoi is a key associate of Sajji through whom he has been allegedly peddling high-quality heroin. The cops got the information about the drug after interrogating Mohan and the other two arrested on January 17 by them.

The ATS team had raided the Vasai flat late in the evening and carried on the operation till lateu00a0Monday night. After the search they recovered the 25 kg of heroin from the flat. The ATS had earlier said that Sajji must have at least sent around 35 kg of heroin to Oberoi.

How Saji was arrested

On January 17, ATS had informationu00a0that two persons carrying heroinu00a0would comeu00a0to Oshiwara for delivery. The police had intercepted a Maruti car and arrested Oberoi (56) and Rajesh Kumar (30) then with 1.8 kg of heroin. Enquiries revealed that IPS officer Saji Mohan wasu00a0involved in the racket and led a trap through Oberoi to nab the officer on Saturday.

According to the police, Sajji had smuggled the heroin to Oberoi and police made Oberoi to call the officer to Mumbai and collect his money. On Saturday, Saji posted, a J& K cadre officer who was posted in Kochi at the time of his arrest, flew into Mumbai and was arrested with 12 kg of high-quality Afghani heroin worth approximately Rs 96 lakh from Classique Club at Andheri.

Saji is the Deputy Director of Enforcement in Kochi, a recent posting. Earlier, he was Zonal Director with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Chandigarh. He is a 1995 batch IPS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre and winner of a gallantry medal during his posting there.

ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi had earlier said that the heroin is of very good quality and could have fetched a steep price, especially in the international market. Heu00a0saidu00a0it would be pricedu00a0Rs. 5 lakh a kg in the Indian marketu00a0butu00a0could fetch over Rs. one crore per kg in world market and Mohan possibly had started a racket selling drugs in Mumbai. The police are analysing his laptop and CDs to check if they have any information about the involvement of others.
