Stationmasters and management staffers had to operate TVMs and issue tickets in absence of Customer Service Assistants yesterday
Exactly a month after mid-day reported how the Monorail is turning into a white elephant, another controversy has rocked the so-called mass transport system.
Claiming non-timely payment of salaries, staffers working in the operations went on a day-long strike yesterday without giving prior notice. 56 Customer Service Assistants protested by remaining absent for
the day.
'Several people have quit'
Speaking to mid-day, one of the protesting employees said that salaries getting delayed by at least two weeks have become a regular affair. "We joined Scomi Engineering thinking that it's a good opportunity for us to grow. However, several people have quit in the past one year. We have EMIs to pay and expect our salaries on time. But a delay of a fortnight has become the norm in the last few months. We want this practice of delaying salaries to end right away or else there will be a bigger strike in the future," said one of the protestors.
Despite repeated attempts, none of the officials from Scomi were available for comment.
