The reason behind the drastic step is still being probed as no suicide note was found, either in her hostel room or at the spot where her body was found. However, her roommate has informed the police that Surbhi was anxious about the ongoing examinations.
"The roommate told us that after breakfast in the canteen, Surbhi told her that she has forgotten her keys in the room. When Surbhi did not return for a long time, the roommate left because she was getting late for her exam. Just when she was about to write her paper, she heard the news," said the investigation officer of Powai police station. He further said that Surbhi was to appear for her third exam paper yesterday.
"She was nervous since the examinations started. Her roommate counselled her, but all failed. Surbhi was also depressed that she was not able to get any job after her graduate diploma and had to study further," added the officer.
The hostel watchman alerted the hostel authorities upon finding her body, after which the local police reached the spot and took her body to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar for post mortem.
"Her family members have been informed. As of now, we have registered an Accidental Death Report and further probe is still underway," said the officer.
