According to the police, Neelam Singh, (21), had tied the knot with Bhojpuri star Pawan, (27), on December 1, 2014. She allegedly killed herself by hanging from a ceiling fan using a dupatta.

Police said Pawan's elder brother, Ranu, his wife, and son were in the house when the incident took place. Ranu's wife, who is Neelam's elder sister, woke up at night to relieve herself and saw the door to Pawan's room open. Thinking her sister was asleep, she went to close it and saw her hanging from the fan. She then raised an alarm.

According to Senior Police Inspector Ramesh Khadtare, from Amboli police station, "Around 3 am on Sunday, we got a call from Pawan Singh's house and we were told that Neelam had committed suicide. Our staff took the body into custody and sent it to Cooper Hospital. She was declared dead before admission."

Reason unknown
"The reason for the extreme step is not clear yet. Her family says she did not manifest any signs of depression. After seeing Neelam hanging, the family members informed Pawan, who had gone out.

He rushed back home," Khadtare added. Sources said that on the day of the incident, Pawan visited his flat at around 1 am, and left for his other apartment in Oshiwara, saying he had some work related to his upcoming movie.

It is suspected there was a quarrel between him and Neelam. It is learnt that Pawan was previously divorced. He allegedly also has relationships with other women, sources added. Police said the actresses from his upcoming film will be questioned. The family members are under the scanner and their statements may also be recorded soon.

"We have not recovered any suicide note from the spot. We are waiting for Neelam's parents to arrive from Patna, and after their statement we will take action. Around four days back, Neelam had come back from Pawan's native place, Aara, in Bihar. We have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are investigating further," a police official said.
