Robbers targetted five workshops at Kandivli, but only found 5 kg silver in one; as a result of the strike, owners had moved the valuables
The ongoing strike by jewellers against excise duty saved four jewellery workshops from being robbed at Kandivli West. Due to the strike, the owners had moved the valuables elsewhere. But one workshop was robbed of five kg silver. The robbers also tried to break into two houses, but could not.
CCTV grabs show the thieves
On Tuesday morning, the jewellers learnt that their workshops had been broken into, following which all of them rushed to the spot, and informed the police.

Employees of Kantibhai Vaya, whose workshop was also broken into, look at their work stations after the failed robbery
One of the jewellers, Kantibhai Vaya, (62) said, "Due to the ongoing strike, we had shifted the valuables to other places, and hence the burglars could not get much. If it had been any other day, then we would have suffered huge losses."

The robbers found just 5 kg silver in one of the workshops, that belongs to Sandip Kumar Thadeshwar (40).
The police said that the images of the robbers have been captured on CCTV and they are trying to identify them.
