The education department has sent notices to education inspectors in the south zone to take action against schools where principals and teachers above their retirement age are still working. Five schools - St Mary's (ICSE) High School, Cathedral and John Connon School, Activity High School, Bombay Scottish and Diamond Jubilee School has been named in this circular, where activists had pointed out that principals way above their retirement age were still in authority.

"All government-aided schools follow rules and teachers and principals have to retire at the age of 58, then why should the private school teachers and principals get an advantage over others. Rules should be equal to all and followed properly," said activist Nanasaheb Kutepatil, who first filed a complaint with the education department last year. While the education department had then sent notices to the schools in order to ensure that these principals/teachers be removed from their post, the latest circular has gone to the education officials in order to ensure that action is taken in all these schools.
