They claim management of St Xavier’s School, Goregaon, was exacting revenge on them; school claims the students were made to sit in the library for two days due to problems with th seating arrangement
Fee hike has always been a bone of contention between school managements and parents and the situation is no different at the St Xavier's School, Goregaon.
Parents said several students from the secondary section of the school were made to sit in the library for the first two days of the new academic year Monday and Tuesday. They alleged that the management of exacting revenge on them for opposing the latest fee hike.
"Last year itself the school hiked the fees from Rs 800 to Rs 1,300, which the PTA had opposed. The matter was later escalated to the Child Rights Commission, where it is awaiting conclusion. With the new academic year beginning, the school has once again hiked the fees," said a parent, adding that the monthly fees have now been increased from Rs 1,300 to Rs 1,855.
"My son is being targeted by the school because I am fighting against the fee hike," a parent of a student who was made to sit in the library said. A few of the parents alleged that the school has hiked fee without seeking the approval of Parent-Teachers' association (PTA), which is mandatory.
Another parent lamented, "If the number of students and classes are the same, then why is there no space for our children in the classrooms? My child missed his lectures because he was made to sit in the library.
The school is denying my child his fundamental right to education." Expressing displeasure over the alleged discrimination, most parents said they will approach the Child Rights Commission soon.
