When hopes of entering a Bandra college got dashed, Durgesh Tepan refused to wait for the next cut off list to be out on Saturday
A 16-year-old SSC student committed suicide on Wednesday evening after failing to secure admission in his preferred college. Sources at Nirmal Nagar police station said, the Kherwadi (Bandra) resident had been depressed and did not want to wait for the next cut off list to be released on Saturday.

Durgesh Tepan had three more chances to secure admission to a college of his choice, as fresh admission round is to begin for all candidates from August 9.
Admission woes
Durgesh, who has three sisters, finished his schooling from New English High School in Bandra. He secured 43 per cent in SSC examinations and wanted to study commerce. Consequently, he filled in online applications in a
few colleges.
According to his neighbours, Durgesh got selected in a Dadar college, but his parents refused to let him join it due to the distance between their home and the institute. He also made it to the cut off list of a Bandra college, but the fee was too high for their family.
Police sources said, Durgesh was optimistic about securing admission in SC quota in Chetana College, Bandra. But the cut off marks in that college is 48 per cent.
One of Durgesh's friends said, "All his schoolmates got through in Chetana College, so he was really looking forward to joining them there. On Wednesday morning, he even met their college staff, who told him not to lose hope as a second list will be released on August 6. But he was miserable."
According to cops, Durgesh returned home and had lunch with his mother. A police official said, "After lunch he met up with a few friends and they discussed about admissions again. His friends encouraged him to wait till Saturday, but he seemed to have lost hope.
In the evening, when his mother went to the market, Durgesh closed the door and hanged himself from ceiling. His mother returned at 7.30 pm and found him. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital."
The source added that no suicide note has been found yet.
