Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) enquiry report on roadworks has indicted former chief engineer Ashok Pawar and chief engineer (Vigilance) Uday Murudkar

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) enquiry report on roadworks has indicted former chief engineer Ashok Pawar and chief engineer (Vigilance) Uday Murudkar. The Mumbai civic body will also be filing an FIR against six tainted contractors and third party auditors in the matter.

Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta presented the roadworks enquiry report to Mayor Snehal Ambekar on Monday. The Mayor, in a press conference, asked for immediate implementation of the recommendations of the report.

The report has indicted former chief engineer of the roads department Ashok Pawar, who currently holds the charge for the building maintenance department. It has also named Murudkar, who is already suspended under the nullah-desilting scam. It has also named junior engineers, sub engineers, executive engineers and even deputy chief engineers. The commissioner will now decide their exact role in the scam and decide on action accordingly.

Besides, it has laid blame on third party auditors who are supposed to audit works after they are executed. An FIR will be filed against them as well.

"Six contractors have been indicted in this report. These include K R construction, Mahavir infra, RPS Shah, R K madhani, Jaykumar and Relcon. They will be blacklisted and an FIR will be filed against them," said BJP leader Manoj Kotak who is privy to the report.

The Mayor said that the report will be brought before the general Assembly for discussion. When asked if action will be taken against senior civic officials or IAS officials, Sena leader Yashodhar Phanse said that it is possible.

"Road scam was brewing since last four years. Since 2013 i have been writing to than MC about irregularities in Road Department. Now Sena-BJP is targeting each other when elections have come. Both are responsible for this corruption," said SP corporator Rais Shaikh.
