Mumbai 5-star hotel manager crashes car into 3 taxis, foreign national

Police have arrested Anup Pandey, 30, a manager at the St Regis hotel, Lower Parel, who had a few extra drinks after winding up work; taxi drivers unhurt since they weren't seated in their cabs


NM Joshi Marg police have arrested Anup Pandey, 30, a manager at the St Regis hotel, Lower Parel, formerly known as Palladium Hotel, for driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing into three taxis parked outside the five-star. His car also brushed past a foreign national who was standing outside the adjacent Palladium mall premises.

According to the police, the driver was arrested from the spot immediately after the incident that occurred at 5.30am on Saturday. An officer from NM Joshi Marg police station said, "Pandey finished his duty, and was heading home. He was driving his car drunk and that's when the incident happened. The foreigner he hit was Lucas Davis from Denmark."

Davis ended up with minor injuries and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital. The accused was nabbed by a taxi driver at the spot and handed over to the police. The officer further added, "The taxi drivers were not seated in their taxis and hence, not harmed."

The police was informed at 6.30 am, following which a team was dispatched to the spot. "We sent the accused for a medical examination which confirmed that he was drunk driving," said an officer.

The accused has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code along with sections 134 (a) (b) and 185 (drink and drive) of Motor Vehicle Act.
