BMC employees, for sure, know how to get playful at work. Mumbai's civic body is facing criticism for being unable to deal with potholes in the city, and yet some officers were seen playing cricket in G-North ward, on Monday.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, officials from the G-North ward, which includes Dadar and Parel, were found playing cricket during working hours on Monday, at the Antonio D'Silva School playground.
Intriguingly, the civic officials actually defended their action by saying that they had completed their pending work before heading out to play cricket. They even claimed that they were playing only during lunch hours.
The Hindustan Times report added that the G-North ward office was vacant from 12 pm to 3 pm. BMC chief Ajoy Mehta has promised to look into the matter.
"Engineers created ruckus and said one of them was insulted when they were criticised for not filling potholes and threatened to go on strike. Why aren't they embarrassed now when they were not on work during office hours," said Sandeep Deshpande, group leader, MNS while speaking to HT.
