Jogeshwari-based senior citizen arrested for alleged rape of a woman. The man allegedly took advantage lured the woman into his house by offering her shelter from the Mumbai rains
The Oshiwara police have arrested a Jogeshwari-based sexagenarian for the alleged rape of a woman, 25, from his neighbourhood.
According to police sources, the incident took place when the woman was out for a walk on Saturday evening. "It started pouring suddenly, so, she took shelter outside the house of a local resident, Mirza Sadik alias Mamu. The girl said in her statement that on noticing her, Sadik asked if she wanted to wait inside his house till the rain subsided. But, Sadik allegedly raped her once she was inside the flat," an officer from Oshiwara police station said.
It was when the woman's mother asked her why she was late reaching home and noticed that her daughter's makeup was smeared that the woman narrated the incident to her. "The mother immediately brought the woman to the police station and filed a complaint. A case under Section 376 (2) (L) and 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused," the officer said.
The officer added that Sadik was produced in court today and has been remanded in police custody till July 6.
