The Crime Branch on Saturday arrested Manish Devilal Darji, 32, the mastermind of a gang that has been involved in thefts at jewellery shops. Unit 12 of the crime branch had kept an eye on Darji after three of his associates were arrested. The police believe that the arrest will help in unearthing unsolved cases of theft in Pune and Nashik, too.

On April 10, 2017, a jewellery shop in Borivli was looted by four unknown persons. The owner had asked his wife to man the shop while he was out with his kids. A worker at the shop drugged the owner's wife and looted goods worth Rs 1.31 crore, including 7.2 kg of gold worth of R1.19 crore and Rs 12 lakh cash. The cops arrested three persons. "We received the tip-off about the gang's kingpin and laid a trap," said Sagar Shivalkar, inspector in-charge of Unit 12.
