A history-sheeter who had been cheating people for the past 20 years has been arrested by the Mulund police for cheating a bank sales manager of Rs 90,000. The incident took place on January 20th where both the accused had cheated the victim as they blamed him of eve-teasing a local resident.

On the evening of 20th January 2020, Aniket Rokade who works as a sales manager in a private bank in Mulund was waiting for a bus. A man in his 20s(Suspect 1) came to him and asked him why did he eve-tease Salim Bhai's daughter. Rokade didn't understand what was he trying to say. He replied saying that he was not aware of any such thing. The suspect asked Rokade to come to a secluded place where a 30-year-old man (Suspect 2) approached Rokade and claimed that there is a crowd of 20-25 people who were waiting to beat Rokade up. Rokade couldn't understand what was going on.

Rokade, who now doubted that something was wrong, was asked by suspect 1 to take off his gold chain and gold ring as they found out that the culprit who eve-teased Salim's daughter was also wearing the same ornaments and they felt it was none other than Rokade. Rokade removed the ornaments and the suspects asked him to go and have a word with Salim Bhai who was waiting in the lane.

Rokade went to the lane and found that no one was there and when he returned, he didn't find the duo too. He understood he has been cheated and rushed to Mulund police station.

An offence was registered against two persons under IPC section 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention). "While we were gathering information, we found that a similar kind of cheating had taken place in Bhandup, Park Site, Ghatkopar, Vileparle and Thane as well," said an officer from Mulund Police station. Senior Inspector Ravi Sardesai had formed a team under Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Kadam, Sub Inspector Harshad Patil.

"We started surveillance in our jurisdiction and found through informers that once the suspects committed the crime in an area, they don't come back there for almost 15 to 20 days. We started keeping eye on the suspects and were also keeping a tab on informers. Finally, we received information in a couple of days that both the suspects were seen in Mulund. A trap was laid and 2 suspects were nabbed. They identified themselves as Kiran Shah and Kamlesh Chotai. "We have arrested both the accused. They were active in Mumbai and Thane for a long time. We have recovered ornaments valued around Rs 4 lakh," said Ravi Sardesai, Senior Inspector of Mulund police station.
