A 24-year-old man has been arrested as soon as he arrived in the city from Dubai for allegedly sending obscene texts and saying inappropriate things to an MNS leader on her phone. The incident occurred in 2015 and as per the police, the accused got the number of the leader via the internet.
As per the Oshiwara police, the incident occurred in July, 2015 when the accused, a resident of Bihar sent an SMS to the MNS leader as per reports by Hindustan Times. She later received obscene phone calls from the man on the same day. The leader then blocked the man's number but he called her back, and sent her another obscene SMS, from an international number.
The MNS leader then filed an FIR at Oshiwara police station in Jogeshwari in the same month under section section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and 67 A (transmits or causes to be published or transmitted in the electronic form any material which contains sexually explicit act) of the Information Technology Act.
On further investigation, the police found that the accused was living in Saudi Arabia for work and issued a Look Out Circular against him at all international airports. Owing to this, the accused was nabbed as soon as he returned to India and is currently in police custody. As per the police, his statements are being recorded and a probe has been ordered.
