The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

On song, with Lata Mangeshkar
On Lata Mangeshkar's 86th birthday, that fell yesterday, publishers Penguin Random House announced that they will be publishing the story of Bollywood's biggest musical star's journey in January 2016. To be titled, Lata Mangeshkar: A Musical Journey.

Lata Mangeshkar

The book that has been written by one of Hindi literature's most respected poets and authors, Yatindra Mishra, will be translated by Sahitya Akademi Award winning author Ira Pande. The content has been sourced from the exclusive and long-running series of interviews, which Mishra has had with Lata Mangeshkar over several years. Watch this space for more.

On sale will be a range of items, ranging from books, vases, crockery, paintings and other treasures at throwaway prices. A little doggie tells us that some of the special items include a brand new Canon Selphy portable printer with extra cartridges and paper, an original Citizen Eco wrist watch (ladies), Ikea TV Cabinet as well a silver plated coffee set.

The proceeds from this sale will be used to immunise and sterilize strays as well as run its adoption program for abandoned pets and pariahs, their on-site first-aid programmes and awareness programmes in schools, colleges, streets and slums. Log on to www.wsdindia.org for more details. Go ahead, make a difference to the lives of Mumbai's strays.

Eco-friendly farewell
On Anant Chaturdashi, the Mayor's Bungalow in Shivaji Park played a key role in taking the lead as far as eco-friendly approaches of immersions go.

Two artificial ponds were created within the premise where ganpati idols were immersed. This diarist spotted huge crowds gather to bid goodbye to the elephant god at this venue. One hopes more will follow suit in the coming years.

Make your fish-list, now
There's a new movie playing at a Mulund cinema house and it is called, ‘Hum gill de chuke sanam'. Well, that could be possible but it is not. Yet, all things gill and with fins will be part of the Aquarium and Fish Show going to be held in Mulund (E) from October 1 to 4.

The Reed Snake Fish

The show will take place at Maratha Mandir Hall, Kelkar College Marg, Mulund (E) and open between 10 am to 9 pm. The exhibition has more than 100 fish tanks and about 200 species of fish on exhibition. Some of these species include Arowana, Aropriama, Black ghost, Reed Snake, and Sting Ray.

Star Fish

This free-entry exhibition has been on at several cities in the country for eight years. This exhibition has been held at different places in Mumbai too in the past, like at Ramnarain Ruia College in Matunga (Central). Now, it is up to the marine life to swim to Mulund.
