The Mumbai Metro III faces fresh opposition from Project Affected People (PAPs) from the Thakurdwar area in south Mumbai who have reservations about the project

It seems problems facing Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro line III seem to be multiplying on a daily basis. After facing opposition to building the car depot at Aarey Milk Colony, the Project Affected People (PAPs) from the Thakurdwar area in south Mumbai have expressed their reservations about the Mumbai Metro III project.

The Project Affected People (PAPs) from the Thakurdwar area oppose the Metro on the grounds that they don't need it since their area is well connected through other public modes of transportation.

On Tuesday, around 50 residents from the area met MMRC officials and told the authorities that they don't need a metro.

A resident, who was a part of the meeting, told mid-day, "We have told the officials that our area has very good connectivity with local railway and also the frequency of BEST buses being good and so we don't need the metro."

However, MMRC authorities have made it clear that that there would not be any change in the alignment. "The metro corridor was finalised keeping in mind boosting connectivity between areas with poor public transport system with other parts of the city," said Dilip Kawathkar, spokesperson for MMRC.

About 26 buildings in Kalbadevi, Chirabazar and Girgaon areas will be demolished either temporarily or permanently to make way for construction of metro stations.
