Trusting a driver of three years with Rs 30 lakh cash almost proved to be costly for a reputed Mumbai-based builder; Dadar Police arrest accused who was trying to flee to UP with the money
Trusting a driver of three years with Rs 30 lakh cash proved to be a mistake for Dilip Srinivas Hate of Skylark, a reputed builder. Dadar police arrested Prakash Chandra Dubey on February 4, who was planning to run away with the money to Uttar Pradesh, with his wife.

On January 31, Hate was travelling with his driver with a bag containing Rs 30 lakh in cash. He asked Dubey to keep the bag at the builder's house at Siddhivinayak Horizon at Prabhadevi. "Instead of keeping the cash at the owner's place, Dubey fled to his home in Diva and gave the bag to a friend for safekeeping," said Sunil Jatak, sub inspector at Dadar police station.
When Hate realised that his driver had fled with the money, he immediately approached the police and a case of theft was registered. Using the photo of the driver, along with information about the area where he resides, the police started their search.
Jatak said, "We traced the accused's house and kept an eye on it, as we suspected that he would be somewhere nearby. We also saw his call detail records that showed he was in Diva. While searching for the driver in the suburb, we found him at a pav bhaji center and arrested him.
We also recovered the Rs 30 lakh from his friend." According to the police, the cash made Dubey greedy and he thought he could run away with the money and easily settle down in Uttar Pradesh to avoid the police.
