Accused molested survivor in a crowded BEST bus at Malad West; she photographed him, gave the pictures to cops after no one came to her aid during the incident

A man molested a woman in a moving crowded BEST bus at Malad West on Tuesday evening. According to the victim, not only did none of her fellow passengers come to her aid, and the bus conductor refused to help her nab the offender and take him to the police station. The survivor is a resident of Mira Road who works in software company at Goregaon.

Recalling her ordeal, she told mid-day that like every day she boarded a 707 BEST bus after office to return home. "On Tuesday evening at around 6.30 pm, I boarded the bus from Oshiwara bus depot at Goregaon west. I was sitting on a ladies' seat. A man in his 30s, was sitting behind me was and continuously tried to touch me inappropriately. At a point he even groped me. I screamed and asked my fellow passengers to help me nab the man and take him to the police station, but no one paid any heed. I also went to the bus conductor. Even he refused to do anything."
According to the lady, she then called her uncle who works in the police department and asked for help while still fighting with the man to escape his advances. All this while, the bus kept running. It was only when the bus reached Borivli that the survivor finally managed to convince the driver to stop the bus near the police station. She again pleaded to the conductor to help her take the man to the police, but the accused pushed the conductor and fled.
However, the survivor had managed to click a few pictures of the accused with the help of the mobile phone. "The incident occurred in front of almost 50 passengers but nobody come forward to help me. Finally, I got downregistered a complaint with the Borvli police and gave them the photo of the man."
The Borivli police registered the case of molestation and transferred it to the Malad police station as the incident occurred in Malad West. Senior Inspector of Malad police station said, "We are in search of the accused. The case was registered under section 354 of Indian Penal Code."
Commenting on the inaction of the driver and the conductor, the BEST PRO Hanumant Gofane said, "We always help our passengers, especially the ladies. If this kind of an incident has taken place, then we can assure you that we will conduct a proper inquiry and check why the bus was stopped only once it reached Borivli while the incident happened near Malad."
