The accused scaled the boundary wall of the college where the woman studies, entered her classroom, and harassed her in front of her friends before fleeing

Kherwadi police have arrested a 24-year-old man for bullying his former girlfriend. According to cops, he was forcing the victim to continue the relationship, whereas she had decided to break all ties. The accused, Gopal Narayan Mali, was produced in court yesterday and has been remanded in judicial custody.

Mali works with a private company, while the woman is a first-year student at Chetana's Institute of Management & Research (CIMR) in Bandra (E). They were neighbours and had been in a relationship for several years.

According to officials from Kherwadi police station, the victim had, of late, developed an aversion to Mali's behaviour. She was keen on calling of their relationship. But Mali was in no mood for a break-up. He tried persistently to cajole her, but the woman was firm on her stance.

Forced entry
On Thursday afternoon, the victim was in her classroom with a few friends during recess. Mali scaled the college wall and found his way to the room. He first tried to make her change her mind by talking about their relationship. Then, in front of her classmates, he threatened to throw acid on the victim's face if she didn't give in. Mali later escaped from the premises.

Deja vu
The woman narrated the whole incident to her parents. The family was scared and worried, especially since this is the same institute where, little over a year ago, a youth had stabbed a woman and then himself. Both had died in the incident. The victim's father went to the police station, where a case was registered against Mali under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC.

Gory past
In December 2012, Nikhil Bankar (22), a student of CIMR, allegedly assaulted his 21- year-old TYBMS classmate Payal Balsara in a fit of rage. Bankar, the only son of a sales tax official, then apparently committed suicide by sticking the same knife into his stomach. Bankar lost his life an hour later at a hospital. Payal too died shortly after.
