Promotion of Mumbai's Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) P Rahangdale is hanging in the balance as he is facing a ten-year-old hit-and-run case in which one person was killed

Mumbai: Promotion of Mumbai's Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) P Rahangdale is hanging in the balance as he is facing a ten-year-old hit-and-run case in which one person was killed.

Police in suburban Goregaon had booked him under relevant Sections of IPC and Motor Vehicle Act after he allegedly rammed his car into an auto-rickshaw on December 21, 2005. Rickshaw driver Janardhan Sharma was killed in the mishap.

Meanwhile, Promotion Committee of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has recommended Rahangdale's name for the post of Chief Fire Officer (CFO). He is currently working as Acting CFO.

The post fell vacant following the death of Sunil Nesrikar, who suffered grievous injuries during fire-fighting operation in a high-rise building here last month.

When contacted, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of General Administration Department (GAD) Kiran Acharekar said, "This (mishap case against Rahangdale) is not in the knowledge of our department."

However, Rahangdale sought to downplay the issue, saying "This is a case of mistaken identity. Moreover, the case is not connected anyway with my departmental activity."

He blamed "jealous" colleagues in his department for raking up the matter. "I am being promoted because of my have exemplary job profile. But there are some people who are out to sabotage my career," he maintained.
