The police said Gauri Kriplani, who resided in Chembur's Navjeevan Society, was crossing the road in RC Marg near the railway station when a water tanker mowed her down. "She sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. The tanker was speeding and the driver's negligence caused the accident," said a Chembur police officer.
The driver, Rajkumar Hansaraj Yadav, 25, has been booked under sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash and negligent driving) of the Indian Penal Code, and 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicles Act, said Sandeep Daal, senior inspector, Chembur police station.
